But for anyone who has an interest in using them as an education toy you will find a brief description of what the brain cell neuron is.
The neuron or nerve cell is an
electrically excitable cell that processes and transmits information by
electrochemical signalling. It uses connections with other cells called
synapses to do this. Neurons are the core components of the nervous
system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral ganglia.
There
are a number of specialized neurons, the motor neurons receive signals
from the brain and spinal cord and cause muscle contractions and affect
glands. Where as the sensory neurons respond to touch, sound, light and
numerous other stimuli affecting cells of the sensory organs that then
send signals to the spinal cord and brain.
The neuron is a
type of cell that is found in the bodies of most animals. The features
that define a neuron are electrical excitability and the presence of
synapses.
Now you can get very technical but if your teaching
kids all you need to tell them that is that they help us feel things
like a hot fire, or the way we react to sound like a mother’s
voice.
